A era da "monocultura"

Palpita-me que a era da "monocultura" está a mudar.

"The independent life begins with discovering what it means to live alongside the monoculture, given your particular circumstances, in your particular life and time, which will not be duplicated for anyone else. Out of your own struggle to live an independent life, a parallel structure may eventually be birthed. But the development and visibility of that parallel structure is not the goal — the goal is to live many stories, within a wider spectrum of human values."
~ F. S. Michaels

Rock star

"Let’s take a typical guy who buys organic food: he doesn’t really buy it in order to be healthy; he buys it to regain a kind of solidarity as the one who really cares about nature. He buys a certain ideological stance."

"Social media is digital narcissism"

“Social media is digital narcissism. Technology is changing human behaviour, it’s changing in a way in which we´re using it to promote ourselves. From our photographs to our taste, to what we’re playing on Spotify or Soundcloud. Why are we giving away so much of our information, so much of our intimate information: our reading habits our television habits, our listening habits, our political views? So that Facebook can be valued at 80 billion dollars, even though they’re not paying us for that information?"

Sobre o elevador social

"We lived today in a bogus meritocracy. Our society proclaims itself democratic and a place where anyone can rise to fame and wealth. But social mobility has declined. Modern market democracies are webs of special connections, riven with unfairness, hidden conspiracies and family deals. The children of successful lawyers, bankers, journalist and so on tend to rise to the top of the money-making professions, apparently convinced they are there because they're worth it."

"Got a revolution" (in my pocket)

Look what's happening out in the streets
Got a revolution Got to revolution
Hey I'm dancing down the streets
Got a revolution Got to revolution
Ain't it amazing all the people I meet
Got a revolution Got to revolution
One generation got old
One generation got soul
This generation got no destination to hold.

Russel's Teapot

"Many orthodox people speak as though it were the business of sceptics to disprove received dogmas rather than of dogmatists to prove them. This is, of course, a mistake. If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense.
If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time."

Bertrand Russel, "Is there a God?", 1952

Freedom Exists

Certainly things happen, and re-occur
In continuous promise
All of us have found a safe niche where we can store up riches
And talk to our fellows on the same premise of disaster
But this will not do
No, this will never do
There are continents and shores which beseech our understanding
Seldom have we been so slow
Seldom have we been so far
My only wish is to see Far Arden again

More from the Dirty Old Man

http://youtu.be/DhM-Dm2PHHo

"The Laughing Heart"
your life is your life
don't let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can't beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.

"Roll The Dice"
f you're going to try, go all the
way.
otherwise, don't even start.

if you're going to try, go all the
way.
this could mean losing girlfriends,
wives, relatives, jobs and
maybe your mind.

go all the way.
it could mean not eating for 3 or 4 days.
it could mean freezing on a
park bench.
it could mean jail,
it could mean derision,
mockery,
isolation.
isolation is the gift,
all the others are a test of your
endurance, of
how much you really want to
do it.
and you'll do it
despite rejection and the worst odds
and it will be better than
anything else
you can imagine.

if you're going to try,
go all the way.
there is no other feeling like
that.
you will be alone with the gods
and the nights will flame with
fire.

do it, do it, do it.

all the way
all the way.

you will ride life straight to
perfect laughter, its
the only good fight
there is.

"Reverse time capsule"

Las Vegas is now a popular family vacation destination.
The guy who made Jaws now rules Hollywood.
The richest man in the world is a computer nerd.
There is a Euro Disney amusement park in France.
TVs are now "home entertainment centers," and they're all remote-controlled.
You can buy anything in the former Soviet Union: spacecraft, nuclear reactors, advanced military aircraft ... anything.

"Navy Seals"

George Carlin takes the show

Com tantos truismos semelhantes, podia estar a falar do nosso país.

"People spending money they don't have on things they don't need . . . So they can max out their credit cards and spend the rest of their lives paying 18 percent interest on something that cost $12.50. And they didn't like it when they got it home anyway. Not too bright, folks, not too fuckin' bright."

Belle du Jour - Veruschka von Lehndorff

"She walks in beauty, like the night

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;

And all that's best of dark and bright

Meet in her aspect and her eyes:

Thus mellowed to that tender light

Which heaven to gaudy day denies"

Lord Byron

...back to India!

Gather your rosebuds while you may

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,

Old Time is still a-flying:

And this same flower that smiles to-day

To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,

The higher he's a-getting,

The sooner will his race be run,

And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,

When youth and blood are warmer;

But being spent, the worse, and worst

Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,

And while ye may, go marry:

For having lost but once your prime,

You may for ever tarry.

"Non lo credo"

A palavra "crédito" vem do latim "credo" (acreditar).

Parece-me que os nossos credores já há muito que deixaram de "acreditar" neste Governo.

O nosso Primeiro deveria ter aulas de etimologia.
São muito úteis e sugestivas.
